Dr. Vesna Tomovska

Full professor

Prof. Dr. Vesna Tomovska was born in 1960 in Skopje. She graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje, at the Institute of Classical Studies (1984), and received her master’s degree from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade at the Department of Classical Sciences (1994) with a master’s thesis entitled . Dr. Miron Flashar. The doctoral dissertation “Choir and choral lyrics in the Greek tragedy”, prepared under the mentorship of prof. Dr. Elena Koleva, she defended on July 3, 2003 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. From May 1985 to September 1986 she worked as an intern at NNSG for classical studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. In September 1986 she was elected junior assistant in the subjects: History of Greek and History of Roman Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. In October 1994. was selected as an assistant in the subject Ancient Literature I (two-year course in the following areas: Ancient Poetics, Ancient Lyrics and Ancient Drama). In February 2004. was selected as an assistant professor in the subjects: Ancient Literature III (Ancient Poetics and Ancient Lyrics) and Ancient Literature IV (Ancient Drama and Ancient Rhetoric). With the introduction of ECTS at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje and the redesign of the study program of the Institute of Classical Studies from October 2004, Dr. Vesna Tomovska holds lectures and exercises in the following (one-semester) subjects: Ancient Lyrics, Literacy in Antiquity, Ancient Drama, Ancient Oratory, Ancient Poetics, Ancient Rhetoric, Literary Analysis of Latin Texts (Roman Lyrics, Drama and Oratory), Literary Analysis of Ancient Greek Texts (Hellenic Lyrics, drama and rhetoric). In December 2008 she was elected associate professor of scientific fields (disciplines): Ancient Greek and Roman Literature and Theory of Literature at the Institute for Classical Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. In November 2013 she was elected full professor of scientific fields (disciplines): classical philology (introduction to classical philology, the book in antiquity), history of ancient Greek literature, history of Roman literature (ancient lyricism, ancient drama), theory of literature (ancient rhetoric, ancient poetics, Byzantine rhetoric) at the Institute for Classical Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. From 2005 to 2009 she was the head of the postgraduate studies in Classical Philology at the Institute for Classical Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. From 2013 to 2017 and from 2017 he is the head of the Institute for Classical Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje.

Fluent in Ancient Greek and Latin. She speaks English, knows German passively. Translates from classical languages ​​into Macedonian.

Research interests: classical philology, Hellenic and Roman literature, ancient lyricism, drama, rhetoric, poetics, stylistics and translation.
