Dr. Anica Dragović

Full professor

Prof. Dr. Anica Dragovic was born in 1966 in Skopje. She completed her primary and secondary education in Skopje. In February 1992 she graduated from the Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje, with a diploma thesis entitled “Ways and mechanisms of transformation of informal into formal power in politics”. In March 1992 she enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. She successfully defended her master’s thesis entitled “Macro-sociological analysis of the parliamentary elections in Central and Eastern Europe: 1989-1994” in April 1997 and thus obtained the degree of Master of Sociological Sciences. In 1999 at the Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje, she submitted her doctoral dissertation and it was approved under the title “Social Environment and Birth”. In the period from 2000 to 2003, Dr. Anica Dragovic was on a study visit at the Cairo Demographic Center in the Arab Republic of Egypt, where she successfully attended the planned curricula in the field of demography. At the Cairo Demographic Center, in 2000, she obtained the degree of General Diploma in Demography and in 2001 the degree of Special Diploma in Population and Sustainable Development. At the Cairo Demographic Center, in 2003 she defended her dissertation entitled: “Level, Differences and Fertility in the Republic of Macedonia” and obtained the academic degree of Master of Philosophy in Demography MPhil. In July 2004.

Anica Dragovic from 1.6.1993 to 14.5.2008 was employed at the Institute for Sociological and Political-Legal Research at the University “St. Cyril and Methodius ”in Skopje as a junior research assistant. In 1998 she was elected research assistant. In 2004 she was elected as a research associate in the field of sociological sciences, with the equivalent teaching title of assistant professor in the subjects: methodology and applied policy, a special part (in the field of population movements and population policy). In 2007 she was elected in the scientific title of senior research associate in the field of sociological sciences and in the teaching title of associate professor in the subjects methodology of social research, statistics of social research, demography and population policy.

Since 2008, Anica Dragovic has been working at the Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University “St. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, as an associate professor. In 2012 she was elected full professor in the scientific fields (disciplines): social demography, sociology of migration, family sociology, population policy, social statistics and methodology of social research, and in 2017 she was re-elected full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy. in Skopje.

Has resided under the Oxford Colleges Hospitality Scheme (2004) program at Nuffield College, UK. In the academic year 2015/2016 (winter semester) at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, at the Faculty of Philosophy-Institute of Sociology, she delivered a lecture as a visiting professor in an elective course: Demographic Challenges and Family Issues in the Republic of Macedonia and the Balkans (Demographic Changes and Family Issues in the Republic of Macedonia and Balkan), in the second and third cycle of studies.

She is actively involved in the professional-applied work of the Faculty of Philosophy and other institutions in the field of research, training and consultations on national and international level.

In the period from 2013 to 2017 he was Vice Dean for International Cooperation at the Faculty of Philosophy, and from 2017 to 2019 she was a Vice Dean for Finance.

She speaks English.

Scientific interests: sociology; demography; family; socio-demographic structure and behavior; public opinion; demographic movement; population policy; methodological and stratigraphic approaches in social research.
