Dr. Vladimir Davchev

Vladimir Davchev was born on November 3, 1962 in Skopje. He finished primary school and high school in his hometown. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje in the Department of Philosophy. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy on June 1987, with a GPA of 9.38 (out of 10).

On May 25, 1988, Vladimir Davchev was elected a junior teaching assistant at the Institute of Marxism by the Teaching-Scientific Council of the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. At the beginning of his academic career, he taught one subject – The Fundamentals of Marxism, and after the curricula transformation in 1991, he taught Philosophy of Technology at the Department of Humanities.

Vladimir Davchev enrolled in the postgraduate studies at the Institute of Philosophy in 1988 and after 3 years, he completed his postgraduate studies with a GPA of 9.00 (out of 10). He obtained his Masters’ degree in Philosophy in 1994 from the Faculty of Philosophy at the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, with the successful defense of the thesis – “The Mind-Body Relationship In Modern Analytical Philosophy”.

Vladimir Davchev obtained his PhD degree in Philosophy in 2000 from the Faculty of Philosophy at the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University by successfully defending his PhD thesis: “Consciousness and Analytical Philosophy: An Analysis of Bertrand Russell`s, Gilbert Ryle`s, and Daniel Dennett’s Understanding of Consciousness”.

He is the author of more than forty published papers (books, articles and reviews) in the field of philosophy and gender studies.

Vladimir Davchev was the president of the Philosophical Society of Macedonia from 2003 to 2007. He was also a member of the Editorial board of the academic journal Philosophy in 2006 and a long-term member of the Editorial Board of the Annual Proceedings of the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. From 2003 to 2005 he was the Deputy Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Annual Proceedings of the Faculty of Philosophy. He was appointed the President of the Editorial Board of the Annual Proceedings of the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje between 2008 and 2011.

Vladimir Davchev was involved in several projects. Some of these projects involve being the member of the advisory board of the project “The Other in the Teaching Contents of Higher Education” initiated by the Open Society Institute – Macedonia Foundation; a member of the editorial board of the publication “Exploring Otherness – Aspects of Otherness from the Perspective of Certain Disciplines in Higher Education in Macedonia” “; and a project manager of “ Cognitive Science in Macedonia: Opportunity Research”.

He works as a full professor at the Institute of Gender Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje.

Research interests: Philosophy of the mind; cognitive philosophy; artificial intelligence and its social impact; masculinity in modern civilization.
